I have no idea when exactly these figures came out. It's a shame I'm out of the Marvel Legends (ML) toy loop. But I know that not all Marvel Legends collectors have welcomed the new series with open arms. ML is one toy line patronized by adults (whether 100% collector or 100% scalper). The toy line re-introduced the idea of "articulated" action figures. They call it "points of articulation". This then allows the figure to do several poses, which can be abused up to a certain extent. Toybiz has gotten some praises for the toy line, which reached series 14 (or so, correct me if I'm wrong).
Now, Marvel has ditched Toybiz and partnered with Hasbro to continue the toyline. Those who've collected every single figure since the first series are not too happy (angry, is more like it). They've said that it'll ruin their collection, since the new series would look and feel different from the old Toybiz series. I say, the solution is to stop collecting, but that's rather harsh.
So, I thought I'd drop by the huge toy store over at the mall and check out the new Hasbro Marvel Legends. Having seen the figures up close, I can say that they look quite different from the Toybiz version. Different in the sense that the paint job is better and the packaging is reminiscent of Star Wars Unleashed toyline. The price has increased significantly too. It would take a completist to actually consider collecting the Hasbro version.
Who says toy collecting can't be complicated?
